How to deal with Dry and Brittle Nails

The Problem

It is rather common that some of us have dry and brittle nails.  It’s a problem with women of all ages. There are a large number of factors that contribute to your nails becoming brittle, dry and weak so often. When your nails start to peel off, this means that you should seek the roots of this problem in the structure of your nails, which is lacking moisture. Today you can read some helpful tips about brittle nails treatment in order to help you get rid of this frustrating problem. Pay attention to the health of your nails in order to have shiny, healthy and wonderful nails that are worth of envy.

The Solution

  • If you are wondering how to cure your dry, exfoliated nails, here you have some great and simple methods you can try right at home in order to give them sufficient support.
  • One of the best ways to get rid of brittle nails is dietary supplementation. Strengthen your nails by including into your diet some of those vitamins, which are essential for the health of your fingernails. Vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, iron and niacin are the best supplements to treat dry, peeling nails.
  • Using nail strengtheners on a daily basis is another great method to cure brittle nails. Nail strengtheners should be applied in the same way as nail polishes, covering your nails with a thin coat of product. In order to ideally nourish your fingernails, opt for a nail strengthener, which contains vitamin B or protein. These products are not expensive but offer a great solution to treat dry, brittle nails.Once or twice a week prepare a great homemade scrub for hardening and strengthening your nails. Mix a tablespoon each of olive oil and castor oil with a teaspoon of honey and half a cup of ground walnuts, shelled beforehand. Apply the mixture to your fingernails and toenails, rubbing the paste on your hands and feet as well. Gently scrub all over and then rinse with lukewarm water.
  • What to do when you have BRITTLE NAILS

Brittle Nails are characterized by a vertical splitting or separation of the nail plate. In most cases, nail splitting and vertical ridges are characteristic of the natural aging process. This nail problem is also the result of overexposure to water and chemical solvents such as household cleaning solutions. As we age, the nail bed’s natural flow of oils and moisture is greatly reduced. This oil and moisture is the cement that holds the nail plate layers together and gives the plate its inherent flexibility. At the first signs of splitting or peeling, re-hydrate the nail plate layers with a good quality cuticle and nail oil that contains Jojoba and Vitamin E as two of the botanical oils. Jojoba oil has a very tiny molecule which can penetrate the nail plate surface, open up the layers and draw the Vitamin E in after it. Oil the nail plate and surrounding cuticle at least twice daily; more if you have your hands in water a lot. Wear gloves whenever working with household cleaning solutions, and remember: water is considered the ‘universal solvent’, and is indeed a ‘chemical’.
